India's capital Awakens to Hazardous Pollution Post Celebrations

Record-Breaking Air Quality Measurements
Various sections of the capital registered an AQI above 500, which equals ten times the healthy limit recommended by the WHO.
Certain monitoring stations, concentrations of toxic particulate matter soared to of 1,800, amounting to 15 to 20 times exceeding healthy limits.
Pyrotechnics Ban and Recent Changes
Beginning in 2020, authorities had enforced a total prohibition on the sale and use of firecrackers during the Festival of Lights due to their major role to the hazardous haze that blankets the city as winter approaches.
However in recent months, the current city government petitioned the highest court to propose a easing of the ban.

The contaminated air leads to high levels of nervous system, cardiovascular and respiratory disorders, and can even lead to malignancies.
